SVHC substances as constituent in lithium batteries: Link to the SCIP data base for listing and an example of the REACH text
There is an obligation to list substances with high hazard potential in the SCIP database, which is managed by ECHA.

The information about the presence of SVHC substances in the cells must be requested by the respective "EU
manufacturer" from the actual cell manufacturer.
Dr. Rainer Jostes gave us two examples of this, which are used in electrolytes.
1,2-dimethoxyethane, which, according to Dr. Rainer Jostes' knowledge, can be found in all primary cells with the
electrochemistry lithium/manganese dioxide.
1,3 propane sultone is an electrolyte additive in various lithium ion cells.
The SCIP database for the listing of SVHC substances can be found at this link: https://echa.europa.eu/de/scip
As an example of how such substances must be declared under REACH, we have attached the current VARTA
document to our newsletter.
