DB Schenker, one of the largest logistics service providers, has officially introduced a solution for transporting NEV batteries from China to Europe “NEV Battery to Europe Airfreight Charter Solution”.
By connecting the two international airports in Hong Kong and Shanghai Pudong as well as DB Schenker’s truck network, a seamless shipment of NEV batteries from China to any destination in Europe is offered.
The NEV (New Energy Vehicle) batteries are large lithium ion batteries used for electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and fuel cell vehicles.

NEV-large lithium-ion batteries fall under dangerous goods class 9 and are therefore subject to the dangerous goods transport regulations. Both in the production, as well as in the manufacturing and transport.
What you need to keep in mind here as a shipper or logistics company, we have compiled for you as Lithium Battery Service.
Not only the large lithium ion vehicle battery has to meet these requirements, but also any other lithium cell or lithium battery installed in the vehicle.
At LITHIUM BATTERY SERVICE, we support and advise you on how to do the right thing with lithium cells and lithium batteries.
Our portal offers you information, training and above all, checklists to get every lithium cell and lithium battery on the right track for worldwide transport.
Whether installed alone or in devices or vehicles. How is it to be packed and labelled? Which label or accompanying paper do you need? What information must be obtained from the manufacturer of the battery? Where is the reference in the transport regulations? What needs to be observed when shipping by air, by road or by sea, what special regulations and changes need to be observed?
You can find all these answers in our checklists and get direct advice from our three long-time experts Jürgen Werny, Eva Glimsche and Robert Wenske.

Here are some informations about e-mobility:
All lithium-ion batteries in vehicles must have been manufactured according to a quality management program described in the transport regulations.
What this quality management program contains, we have put together for you here:
https://www.lithium-batterie-service.de/en/quality-management-program
And the following technical requirements have to be fulfilled for large lithium ion batteries:
- Each lithium ion battery incorporates a safety venting device or is designed to preclude a violent rupture under normal safety conditions.
- Each lithium ion battery is equipped with an effective means of preventing external short circuits.
- Each lithium ion battery containing cells or series of cells connected in parallel must be equipped with effective means as necessary to prevent dangerous reverse current flow (e.g. diodes, fuses etc.)
If a lithium cell or lithium battery comes onto the market, it must also have passed the UN test series 38. 3. You can find out what it contains here:
https://www.lithium-batterie-service.de/en/un-38.3-test-series
Since 01.01.2020 a UN 38.3 Test Summary needs to be provided by the manufacturer and any subsequent supplier on request. We have included all required details of the UN 38.3 Test Summary in our Supplier Inquiry Form.
Our supplier inquiry form helps you to get all necessary information for logistics. You´ll find it here:
