Dear Lithium Battery Service Customers,
in this newsletter we have the following topics for you:
1. IATA DGR 2022 – Section II für UN 3090 und UN 3480 will be deleted with three months transitional period
2. Delays in air transport via Peking (PEK) and Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG)
3. Co-operation with Strober & Partner GmbH
4. Dates for our Online Seminars in September
1. IATA DGR 2022 – Section II für UN 3090 und UN 3480 will be deleted
with three months transitional period until end of March 2022
Even though ICAO will only decide upon this in November, IATA as association of scheduled airlines has deleted Section II of PI 965 for UN 3480 Lithium Ion Batteries and Section II of PI 968 for UN 3090 for Lithium Metal Batteries without replacement. The new requirement is valid from 01. April 2022.
This implies that „small“ lithium cells and batteries without equipment then can only be shipped in air transport according to Section IB of the respective packing instruction.
For the shipping preparation of lithium cells and batteries according to Section II the Adequate Instructions as per 1.6 of the IATA DGR were sufficient.
For Section IB an ICAO TI / IATA DGR dangerous goods training with exam is required. Only after successfully passing the exam one receives a certificate that is valid for two years. Persons packing according to Section IB and persons signing the shipper´s declaration according to Section IB need to be trained.
2. Delays in air transport via Bejing International Airport (PEK) und
Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG)
Turkish Cargo informed via OAG Inforwarding on 20. August 2021 that after the week-long shut down of Nanjing Lukou International Airport (NKG) due to a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases, the Chinese authorities implemented a 14+7 days quarantine for ramp staff, cargo handling staff and airline staff that has come or is in close contact with foreign airline crew.
This led some employees to resign their job. Through this subsequent manpower shortage flights from several airlines were cancelled, departed empty or with only partial loads. In addition current positive cases at SIAS impacting numerous disruptions and cancelations for other airlines´ operations.
Turkish Cargo has managed so far to operate its flights as planned but they suggest that you stay in close contact with the Turkish Cargo Account Management Team to be informed on the present developments.
