E-mobility so far only works with lithium ion battery technology.
Lithium batteries belong to the dangerous goods class 9.
We at LITHIUM BATTERY SERVICE will support and advise you on how to do it right with lithium cells and lithium batteries.
Our portal offers you information, training and most importantly checklists to get each lithium cell and lithium battery properly on its way for worldwide transport. Whether they are alone or installed in equipment or vehicles, for disposal or as a prototype. You ask yourself how to pack or label the batteries? Which label or shipping document do you need? What information must be obtained from the battery manufacturer before? Where you can find the relevant transport regulations? You will find all these answers in our checklists and you can get advice directly from our three long-time experts. For your company as well as for groups.

Here some information about large lithium batteries in e-mobility:
All lithium ion batteries in vehicles must have been manufactured according to a quality management program described in the transport regulations, also prototypes.
More about the manufacture according to the QM program for lithium cells and lithium batteries can be found here:
https://www.lithium-batterie-service.de/en/quality-management-program
And the following technical requirements all large lithium batteries e.g. those in vehicles have to fulfill:
- Each lithium ion battery incorporates a safety venting device or is designed to preclude a violent rupture under normal safety conditions.
- Each lithium ion battery is equipped with an effective means of preventing external short ciruits.
- Each lithium ion battery containing cells or series of cells connected in parallel must be equipped with effective means as necessary to prevent dangerous reverse current flow (e.g. diodes, fuses etc.).
The source to those requirements is the reference in Special Provision 388 to paragraph 2.2.9.1.7 in the ADR.
Every lithium cell or lithium battery that is no longer a prototype or a small series of up to 100 pieced, must have been successfully passed the UN test series 38.3.
The UN test series 38.3 includes the following:
https://www.lithium-batterie-service.de/en/un-38.3-test-series
Since 01.01.2020 a UN 38.3 Test Summary needs to be provided by the manufacturer of lithium-cells and -batteries and any subsequent supplier on request. We have included all required details of the UN 38.3 Test Summary in our Supplier Inquiry Form.
Our supplier inquiry form helps you to get all necessary information for logistics. You´ll find it here for free:

By the way, not only the large lithium-ion battery in vehicles or trucks has to meet the requirements of the dangerous goods transport regulations, but also any other lithium cell or lithium battery.
We offer checklist articles for every shipping variety of lithium cells and lithium batteries, including battery-powered vehicles. You can find these via "Find a single checklist":
