Marking on packages - Further clarification
In our last Newsletter (2-2023) one of the topics was the language allowed to be used on packages.
As further
clarification we have the statement of Mr Depre because some of our international customers were of the opinion that
all major ADR languages should be treated equally.
The text of the following email was translated by Eva Glimsche:
Dear Mr Werny,
the legally binding nature of the German versions of the ADR/RID/ADN results from § 1 Para. 3 of the GGVSEB,
whereby the respective German translations of the regulations as published in the Federal Law Gazette
(„Bundesgesetzblatt“) are to be applied in Germany.
The wording in SP 633 does not change this, because there it is explicitly regulated that this label must be written in
an official language of the country of dispatch and, if necessary, also in German, English or French. It cannot be
concluded from this that this is generally the intention of the entire ADR/RID/ADN and that this language regulation
has only been forgotten in other places.
I do not see any further need for action here, but I have cc'd the BMDV with the opportunity to comment if a different
legal view is taken there.
Best regards
Christian Depre
